Angst

I know why my parents raised me the way that they did
They wanted the best for me
They didn't want me to make the same mistakes that they made
But I don’t know why they won’t let me make my own mistakes
Let me learn for myself
How cruel this world can be
But also let me learn for myself
How marvelous this world can be at the same time
I've learned to be fearful of everything

I don’t want to be afraid anymore.

  1. I totally understand the desire to find the balance between being cautious but also open to new adventures and mistakes. I've been on both sides of this equation--the child and also the parent--and I can say I never knew fear like that of a parent...It's such a leap of faith to let the one thing you cherish more than anything else out into the big world, open to harm. But you've just got to let your little bird fly...
